Mike was born in the Netherlands in 1976.

He graduated from Delft University of Technology in 2002 with a master degree in applied mathematics and joined the LAB a month afterwards as an associate researcher.

He obtained his PhD at the UPC working on the identification of sperm whales using neural network techniques and is currently working on real-time acoustic monitoring.
