Born in 1976 in Bern, Switzerland.
2002, Master in ecology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Science in Zürich (ETHZ).
2006, Postgraduate master in statistics at the University of Neuchâtel.
He worked as statistical modeller at the Swiss Ornithological Institute, where he applied machine learning and signal processing methodology in a project aiming at the automated classification of radar signals produced by birds and insects.
At the LAB he develops techniques for the processing and automatic classification of acoustic signals received in the subsea environment. The aim is to automatically detect and classify biological signals (e.g. cetacean’s clicks or calls) and anthropogenic signals (e.g. shipping, drilling) in large data series such as those that are recorded at ocean observatories.
